#SweetRomance #FridayReads Guest: Constance Phillips

On Fridays I introduce you to friends of mine, and their sweet romance books. Some of the authors may write all sweet, others may write hotter stuff. But for the purposes of this blog we'll just be learning about their sweet (G/PG rated) tales.

Please welcome today's guest, my friend Constance Phillips! Constance and I were with the same publisher in the past, and once I met her in person--at Lori Foster's Reader and Author Get Together last June. That's a great event, by the way, if you love to read romance novels.

Anyhoo, heeeeere's Constance!

Life in a Small Town

When I began writing the first book to my Sunnydale Days series – All That’s Unspoken – I knew it had to be set in a small town. I grew up in a small town and knew that way of life was just the backdrop that the story deserved.

Back when I was young, I didn’t appreciate just how special small town life was. In fact, I spent a lot of time daydreaming about going out and seeing the big cities and the big world. Years later, I happily settled in a small(er) town, knowing there was something to be said for knowing your neighbor and caring about those who live around you.
Building my Sunnydale world in a familiar town was a little bit like going home.

Especially for that first book in the series, I felt the characters had to live in a fishbowl of sorts. They needed to be surrounded by people who knew them. Loved them. And didn’t mind offering advice, whether it was asked for or not.

That thread has continued through the books, and in the most recent release – All That’s Unforeseen – coming tomorrow, the community of people who surround Marilynn and Eli are as familiar as the streets of that town.

When I started this book, I tightened the ties of that town even more. Marilynn’s closest friends are characters we’ve seen before, but the man she’s falling in love with is her ex-husband’s best friend. To tip those normal relationships on their side, and dig deep into what it would be like to twist the emotions of best friend to a tighter bond, was fun for me to write.

And, I hope for you to read too.

Sunnydale Days

Hearts, horses, and healing…

Knowing how the story ends doesn’t mean there aren’t wonderful surprises along the way.
When her son was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy Marilynn Morgan knew how the story was going to end. What she didn’t know was what life would bring her along the way. She didn’t anticipate her husband leaving her or getting remarried a few years later. She didn’t realize how lonely her life would become, and she certainly didn’t expect to feel the way she did when her ex-husband’s best friend, Eli Briggs, showed up to fix Joss's lift.

Back in high school, Eli fell head over heels for Marilynn, but when she started chasing his best friend he buried his feelings. Over the years, he silently stood by his friends through the good times and the bad. Now, three years have passed since Dan walked out, and Marilynn’s late night call has him back in Marilynn and Joss’s life—and is giving him a chance to rewrite a future he thought he knew.

Constance Phillips lives in Ohio with her husband, daughter, and four canine kids where she writes contemporary romance novels and paranormal romance novels.
When not writing stories of finding and rediscovering love, Constance and her husband spend the hours planning a cross-country motorcycle trip for the not-so-distant future…if they can find a sidecar big enough for the pups.
